Abstract

The Associate Medical Education Fellows (AMEF) programme was launched in July 2024 to strengthen postgraduate medical education. Five trainees from varied specialties were appointed and undertook projects spanning curriculum development, trainee support, and well-being. Notable initiatives included aligning Foundation Year 1 teaching with the Horus e-Portfolio curriculum, organising a psychiatry teaching day, developing simulation-based vascular skills training, and enhancing “Workplace and Me” sessions. A major focus was support for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) through an induction package, peer networks, and a regional IMG Conference addressing professional development, cultural adaptation, and well-being. These projects improved educational provision and provided Fellows with leadership and organisational experience. Early feedback highlighted positive impact on both trainees and IMGs, while addressing wider challenges of burnout, supervision, and retention. The programme has demonstrated significant value and is planned for future expansion.
